Permanol P-TBTN (Tributyltin-naphtenate (TBTN) and Permethrin)
Permanol P-TBTN is an industrial LOSP 9 (low organic solvent preservative), protecting wood against wood-destroying fungi, insect larvae and termites. Permanol P-TBTN can be used for hazard classes H2 or H3 (if protected with a sealer).
It is specially designed to treat structural timber such as flooring and mouldings.
TBTN is applied by impregnation into the timber by vacuum and pressure at our timber treatment plant. This approximately 2 hour process involves a pressure cylinder where timber undergoes a series of processes involving vacuuming and pressure. It is a controlled process monitored by the SABS to ensure compliance with the SABS specifications.
Once the process is complete, timber is left slightly damp, but this carrier solvent (oil based) evaporates after a few days.
Timber treated with Permanol P-TBTN retains its original colour. One of the biggest advantages of using this product is that the molecule size is relatively small compared to that of other timber preservatives, as it uses a low-organic solvent as the carrier of the active ingredients into the timber.
As a result, the timber undergoes no or very little warping, making it highly suitably for speciality applications where the dimensional accuracy of the timber is important, such as flooring and mouldings.
It can be painted or sealed easily.
TBTN treated timber is treated to SABS H2 classification.
H2 Internal – low hazard: Structural timber, flooring, ceiling and mouldings
TBTN Treated can be used in a H3 application (above ground outside) if a well maintained coating is applied, completely sealing the timber from water ingress.
