Wood App the Free Timber Education Website is live and ready to guide wood standards in South Africa.
Co-ordinated by the Department of Forest and Wood Science at the Stellenbosch University, this initiative pulled together various subject experts to develop a FREE educational platform for the design and use of wood products.
Aimed at architects, engineers, builders and wood fans in general, the WoodApp https://thewoodapp.com/ was initiated to support the growth and development of a South African wood building culture through online educational resources. With financial support from Sawmilling South Africa, the South African Wood Preservers Association (SAWPA), and FP&M Seta, all the online courses are accredited by the SA Institute of Architects.
Each course takes about 2.5 hours to complete and currently includes:
- Timber Frame Building in SA
- Stress Graded Timber
- Timber Deck Building
- Specifying Timber Products for Exterior Application=
- Timber in Fire
- Wooden Flooring
- Wooden Poles
As a member of the South African Wood Preservers Association – one of the website funders, Somerset Timbers believe this is such a great way to enable learning about the technical side of South African timber.
