Somerset Timbers is a SABS-registered timber treatment facility providing on-site timber treatment since 1996!
We provide CCA and Azure treatment for our timber, and timber supplied by our customers to ensure as much compliance as possible to South African building regulations.
Our treatment plants are equipped to facilitate a highly specialized industrial process that involves the impregnation of preservatives under pressure into dry timber, with varying intensity based on the end-use. This process renders the wood nutrients unpalatable to insects and uninhabitable to fungus.
Timber treatment is defined by different hazard levels as per the following SABS classifications:
- H2 Internal – low hazard. Any timber not directly exposed to rain, sun or the earth such as timber framing, roof trusses, flooring, ceiling.
- H3 Exterior above ground – moderate hazard. Timber exposed to rain and sun but NOT ground: Decking, fencing, garden furniture, gates.
- H4 Ground contact – high hazard. Timber planted in the ground or exposed to ground contact such as fencing poles, deck support poles.
