Somerset Timbers donated the timber required for much-needed repairs and showed its support for the NSRI in Hout Bay.

The CCA-treated timber was used to repair the main cradle on the docking trailer supporting the largest rescue vessel at the Hout Bay station. The timber stops the hull of the boat from rubbing against the metal of the trailer which prevents any damage to either item. The timber was preserved at our in-house treatment facility and has a service life of up to 25 years although CCA-treated wood can last for 40 years.

The NSRI is such a critical part of safety along the South African coastline and supporting them in any way is the least we can do for this team.

What is CCA Timber Treatment?

  • Chromated Copper Arsenate (CCA) is one of the world’s most popular wood preservatives and has broad-spectrum usage and efficacy.
  • A water-borne preservative, it provides long-term protection against wood-destroying fungi, insect larvae and termites
  • It is used for structural timber, agriculture poles (pine and eucalyptus) and transmission poles.
  • CCA-treated timber is odourless, safe and easy to handle after treatment, and requires no special equipment during installation.
  • It has a service life of up to 25 years, although CCA-treated wood can last for 40 years and longer.
