Table Mountain Cable Car Boardwalk Upgrade

Table Mountain Cable Car boardwalk upgrade projects don’t just improve infrastructure—they elevate the experience of visiting one of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks. The City of Cape Town recently completed a major upgrade to the boardwalk leading to the Table Mountain Cable Car, and Somerset Timbers is proud to have supplied the materials that helped bring the project to life.

Contracted by the City, Amandla Construction expertly handled the replacement of the ageing boardwalk structure. The goal: to provide a safer, more durable, and visually appealing walkway for the thousands of tourists who visit this global destination each year.

All timber used for the boardwalk was supplied by Somerset Timbers—selected for its strength, durability, and suitability for outdoor conditions. In addition, the wood was treated with Endura Galseal, a premium protective coating that preserves and enhances the timber’s lifespan. The result is a walkway that blends naturally with the environment while standing up to the Cape’s demanding weather.

This Table Mountain Cable Car boardwalk upgrade is part of the City of Cape Town’s ongoing efforts to enhance tourist infrastructure and reaffirm its reputation as the most beautiful city in the world.
